Chinese Scalp Acupuncture for Neurological Diseases


Scalp Acupuncture is one of the modern microsystem acupuncture techniques which combine Chinese acupuncture needling methods with western medical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology and particularly the elementary functional neuroanatomy about representative areas of the cerebral cortex. 


Scalp Acupuncture was originally invented in China and first published in 1971 as a separately acupuncture technique. It is widely practiced in not only in China but also worldwide. There are several different styles of scalp acupuncture. After 50 years’ practice, scalp acupuncture is still on developing in its locations, techniques and applications. 


The workshop will introduce the scalp acupuncture, the location of stimulation areas and indications, the manipulations and cautions of scalp acupuncture and its clinical applications, especially for neurological diseases.


Day 1:

Scalp acupuncture: introduction, location, indication, and needling. 


Day 2: 

TCM Brain theory and neurological knowledge. 

Understanding on commonly seen neurological disease and their treatments with scalp acupuncture1: Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's Disease. 

Demonstration and practice.


Day 3: 

Understanding on commonly seen neurological disorders and their treatments with scalp acupuncture2: Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, Brain injuries, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Headache and Pain associated with neurological disorders.

Demonstration and practice.

Prof. Dr. Tianjun Wang


Prof. Wang graduated from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) in 1989 and also completed his PhD at NJUCM. He moved to the UK and joined the University of East London UK as a Senior Lecturer and the Director of Acupuncture Clinic 2007- 2014.

He is a Guest Professor of NJUCM and the Master and PhD course supervisor at UK Centre of NJUCM. Current Prof. Wang is the Principal of the London Academy of Chinese Acupuncture. Prof. Wang is the Vice President of the Scalp Acupuncture Committee of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) and the president of the Institute of Scalp Acupuncture UK. He owns TJ Acupuncture Clinic and Brain Care Centre in London. 

Prof. Wang has authored and co-authored more than 50 academic papers as well as peer reviewers to many international journals. His authored book “Acupuncture for Brain: Treatment for Neurological and Psychologic Disorders” published by Springer 2020.
